Alejandro Moreno
Alejandro Moreno was born July 8, 1979 in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. Moreno moved to Texas, United States from his native Venezuela as a youth and played for the '80 Dallas Texans under coach Hassan Nazari. He and his team won the club's first ever Dallas Cup Championship in 1994 in the U-14 age group.
After graduating from the Texans, Alejandro played four years of college soccer at UNC Greensboro. He finished his career there fourth on the team's all-time scoring lists, with 65 goals and 25 assists, and having been named First Team NSCAA All-South Region all four years with the team.
After completing his career at Greensboro, Moreno was drafted 27th overall in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft by the Los Angeles Galaxy. Los Angeles went on to win the 2002 MLS Cup in his rookie year. In his 4 seasons with the Galaxy, Alejandro appeared 70 times and scored 12 goals. He was traded to the San Jose Earthquakes in 2004. After his first year the Earthquakes moved to Houston, becoming the Dynamo, which then went on to win the 2006 MLS Cup.
He was then traded to the Columbus Crew the following year, having made 71 appearances and scoring 11 goals in his 2 years. In his second year with the Crew, they advanced to the 2008 MLS Cup, during which Moreno scored the first goal and eventually won the game 3-1 against New York Red Bulls. Moreno was selected by Philadelphia Union in the 2009 MLS Expansion Draft on 25 November 2009. On November 24, 2010, Moreno was selected by Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the 2010 MLS Expansion Draft, but was immediately traded to Chivas USA.
In his 9 MLS years, Moreno has made 257 appearances, scoring 51 goals and adding 35 assists. Moreno has also won a record 3 MLS Cups and led MLS in fouls suffered for the three straight seasons (2005-07).
Moreno's performances in MLS have seen him receive call-ups for the Venezuelan National Team; he made his first appearance on February 18, 2005 against Australia. Due to his high quality of form during the 2008 Major League Soccer season, Moreno was again called up to the Venezuelan team for some 2010 World Cup Qualifiers. Overall Moreno has appeared for Venezuela 37 times, scoring 3 goals.
